Haitian Die Casting Powers Mass Production of the World’s Largest Integrated Magnesium Rear Body
2025-05-12

On April 23, at the SERES Smart Safety Conference during Auto Shanghai, the world’s largest integrated magnesium die-cast rear body for mass production made its debut.
Earlier, on April 12, the “Global First Launch of SERES Ultra-Large Integrated Magnesium Rear Body and White Body Trial Production” was successfully held at the SERES Super Factory.
Jointly developed by SERES, Chongqing University, Baowu Magnesium, and the University of Science and Technology Beijing, this achievement marks a milestone from component-level R&D to full-vehicle mass production application of large magnesium die-cast body parts. In 2025, the rear body underwent multiple trial productions at the Haitian Die Casting Global Application Center’s 8800-ton cell, accelerating validation and paving the way for mass production.
The project achieved 48 technological breakthroughs, including 12 world-first “zero-to-one” innovations. Compared with traditional aluminum solutions, it achieved a 21.8% weight reduction and over 10% improvement in overall performance.
Academician Pan Fusheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering highlighted that magnesium technology is now mature enough for 50kg+ application per vehicle, and this breakthrough lays the foundation for future 100kg+ and 200kg+ adoption — a true milestone.
As the equipment provider, Haitian Die Casting continues to deepen expertise in light metal forming. Since the commissioning of the 8800-ton trial unit at the Global Application Center in October 2022, more than 25 integrated die-casting molds have been tested for global customers. The successful trial production of this magnesium rear body once again demonstrates the exceptional capabilities of Haitian’s ultra-large die-casting machines.
Looking ahead, Haitian Die Casting will remain innovation-driven, working with industry partners to advance the green transformation of the global automotive industry.
